Piner Elementary School
Thank You Letters

Dear Contributors and Participants of “The Best Day Ever 2010” -

We celebrate in the face of adversity. We challenge the weather… and win. (Mostly.) We KNOW what it takes to coordinate a truly memorable day.

What it takes is YOU. We couldn’t have done it without your participation. Every person, every organization who contributed time, goods and services helped us provide Piner Elementary School with one last, unforgettable field day and year-end bar-be-que.

What a day that was.

Field Day was a fun time for the children because of the activities led by many caring parents who volunteered their time to help.  The field was filled with smiles and laughter, all indicative of the fun that was being had.  A short, but strong burst of rain cut our activities short, but it did not ruin the excitement of the day.  It only made them focus more on the fun that was yet to come that evening.  Luckily, the rain held off for the evening event.

We shouldn’t have been so lucky. Many weather forecasts, and even the overcast skies that persisted through most of the day, seemed to indicate that the evening was likely to be dreary. Instead, the rain clouds gave way, just in time for “The Grand Finale. “

Many, many parents and volunteers worked together to ensure that our kids would never forget this evening. From traffic control to grilling burgers to staging an incredible raffle, the efforts and contributions were exemplary. The Santa Rosa Fire Department and Sonoma County Sheriffs’ Department committed significant resources – including a helicopter! – to reach out to our children and help them as they prepare to grow into young adults.

Because we can, we are committed to helping people in need throughout our community. As part of our year-end party, we organized a food drive, which collected more than 600 items for the FISH food pantry. Thank you for your incredible generosity!

But this was by no means a serious event. Did you see the magician perform? Try to climb the impossible ladder? Get a tattoo? There was so much to do that three hours was nearly not enough time.

When we work together, we’re able to accomplish things that would be impossible alone. That is, ultimately, the final legacy of Piner Parents. For years uncounted, we’ve worked together to provide opportunities for our students – educational assemblies, dance parties, movie nights, book fairs… the list is immeasurable, and year after year, hundreds of parents and other volunteers have been involved in making those events possible.

Life goes on. Although Piner Elementary School has a transformational change ahead, our children will find themselves in a different educational environment, one in which they will continue to grow and excel.  Hopefully, you’ll be able to continue your contribution to their development. There are many other organizations that will benefit from your assistance, just as Piner Parents was made better by your involvement.

So here we are. It’s time to say goodbye to Piner Elementary School . Thank you for everything you did to help make our event, and our school, unforgettable. And in the end, we celebrate.
